Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is preparing to engage in high-level talks with United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials to secure the release of Bangladeshi workers who were detained following recent protests, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain announced today.
In his first official press briefing at the foreign ministry, Adviser Touhid Hossain revealed that Prof Yunus plans to speak directly with the UAE’s top authorities within the next few days. The goal is to ensure the release of these expatriates without any penalties or further legal consequences.
“The chief adviser is committed to personally addressing this issue with the UAE leadership. We are hopeful that his intervention will lead to a positive outcome,” Hossain stated.
The foreign ministry has pledged ongoing support for the detained workers throughout this process. “We will continue to provide all necessary assistance to these individuals, both during and after these discussions,” Hossain added.
The arrests occurred amid protests in several countries, including the UAE, in support of an anti-discrimination movement in Bangladesh. The detained workers, many of whom were caught up in these demonstrations, now face imprisonment.
“We are carefully monitoring the situation and are doing everything in our power to prevent further suffering for these workers,” Hossain emphasized, underscoring the interim government’s dedication to securing their release and safe return.
The foreign ministry’s efforts, led by Prof Yunus, highlight the government’s strong commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of Bangladeshi citizens abroad.
