The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is taking a strong stance against companies trying to bypass rules designed to create more job opportunities for Emirati citizens. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) recently announced hefty fines for over 1,300 private companies caught cheating the system.
What’s Emiratisation?
Emiratisation is a government initiative that encourages companies, especially larger ones in certain fields, to hire more UAE nationals. This helps Emiratis find jobs and strengthens the overall UAE workforce.
Fake Hiring Exposed!
The MOHRE conducted inspections and discovered that a shocking number of companies (2,170 to be exact!) were resorting to dishonest practices to fulfill Emiratisation targets. These companies were essentially creating fake jobs and hiring Emiratis on paper only, without any actual work involved. This not only defeats the purpose of the program but also takes away genuine job opportunities from deserving Emirati citizens.
Consequences for Cheaters
The MOHRE is sending a clear message: there will be serious repercussions for companies caught cheating. These consequences include:
- Fines: Companies face hefty fines ranging from AED 20,000 (around $5,400) to a maximum of AED 100,000 (approximately $27,200) per violation.
- Blacklisting: Violators may be placed on a government list that could make it harder for them to do business in the UAE.
- Missed Fees: Companies will be required to pay any Emiratisation-related financial contributions they might have avoided earlier.
- Legal Action: Depending on the severity of the offense, the MOHRE might even refer the case to the Public Prosecution, potentially leading to court appearances.
Why is This Important?
The UAE government believes that a strong, diverse workforce is crucial for the country’s continued success. Emiratisation programs ensure that qualified Emiratis have access to good jobs, while also enriching the work environment with a mix of cultures and perspectives. By cracking down on cheaters, the MOHRE is sending a message that it’s committed to creating a fair and transparent job market that benefits everyone.
How You Can Help
The MOHRE encourages the public to play a role in upholding Emiratisation policies. If you suspect a company might be resorting to fake hiring practices, you can report them directly to the MOHRE by calling their toll-free number: 600 590 000.
Working Together for a Stronger UAE
By following the rules and providing genuine employment opportunities for Emiratis, companies can contribute to a more prosperous and inclusive UAE. This collaborative effort ensures a brighter future for both Emirati citizens and the UAE’s overall economic growth.
